  • The search for new and attractive forms of presence for contemporary threadbare fabric in homes, flats and public spaces led me to create the Traces collection.

Traces are memories – crumbs of images we carry within us. They are fleeting, fuzzy, hazy and change over time. They transport us to places where we feel good; they relax us, give us solace.

  • The fabrics have a raw, spare form of contemplative screens. They are created from materials rooted in tradition – natural linen and sheep’s wool. Their role is to give the viewer breath, space and reveal their layers. From a distance they are a composition of colourful patches, evoking associations with landscapes, while up close they show the richness of colour transitions and the texture of different types of yarn. Simplicity and understatement become an impulse for reflection.

  • The series comprises 3 cycles – Cord, Traces on the Sand and Wild Ivy. The warp and weft of the background is linen yarn. Additional weft is linen or sheep’s wool in various colours and textures. Working in the spirit of less waste, I use yarn ends from previous projects, which makes the colours unrepeatable and each fabric unique.
The screens are framed, ready to hang and signed on the back.

The photographs of the fabrics taken by Matylda Polak come from the exhibition Nów i przyjaciele, which took place from 4-20 October, Dom Kultury Ferment, 40 Iwonicka Street, Warsaw
